Energy and Building Services Engineering · Düsseldorf

Energy concepts, building services design and building simulation.

M.Sc. Energy Efficient and Environmental Building Design (Lund University) with professional experience in architectural design and in construction project management. Focus on energy performance simulation, design of ventilation and heating systems, daylight concepts, building physics and life-cycle assessment (LCA) — from the techno-economic assessment of individual renovation measures to prioritised renovation roadmaps for residential and non-residential buildings.

The work starts with how a building is actually operated: use, occupancy, load profiles. From there come system concepts that are tested in simulation and checked against standards and cost before they enter the design phase.

The years in architectural design and construction project management shape the rest: schedules, budgets, tendering and coordination between disciplines are part of the task, not an appendix to it.

Building services

Ventilation and hydronic heating system calculations: required air flows per zone, duct networks, diffusers, AHU and radiator selection

Simulation & building physics

Energy performance simulation: IDA ICE, EnergyPlus (Honeybee/Grasshopper), ClimateStudio, Rhino, Revit, AutoCAD; hygrothermal simulation (WUFI, Heat2), thermal bridge calculations, moisture safety design

Life-cycle assessment (LCA)

Life-cycle assessment and EPD creation with One Click LCA and OpenLCA; basic knowledge of DGNB, BREEAM, LEED

Life-cycle cost (LCC)

Payback analysis, ROI, IRR, cost of conserved energy, feasibility studies, cost planning; German funding programmes BEG, KfW, BAFA (basic knowledge)

Standards

EPBD, MEPS, EN 17037, EN 12464-1, LEED v4.1; introductory knowledge of GEG

Project delivery

Budget, schedule and quality responsibility, tendering, interdisciplinary coordination, technical communication with clients
